Roller-skating course
for kids aged 7–8

5 days of skating in a row — Monday to Friday, every day 17:00–18:30 in Park Szczęśliwicki (Ochota, Warsaw).

A small group at one level and the same instructor guiding the kids all week. For children who have already made their first steps on skates and want to skate with confidence.

Who is this course for?

We design the course for one specific group: children aged 7–8 at beginner level who already have their first steps on skates behind them. That way the whole group practises the same things and nobody waits for the rest to catch up.

The course is for a child who:

  • stands on skates and keeps balance on their own,
  • can roll several metres without holding a hand,
  • can get up after a fall (or will learn it quickly),
  • wants to skate with confidence: turn, brake and speed up without fear.

This course is NOT for a child who:

Your child is just outside the age range, or you’re not sure about the level? Call us — we’ll honestly tell you whether the course is the right place for them.

Instructor

The whole course is led by Zuza

From the first day to the last, the group works with the same instructor — Zuza, who teaches children to skate at the Zone4Rollin school.

One instructor for the whole week makes a real difference: Zuza knows every child by name, knows what the group worked on yesterday and adjusts the exercises as she goes. Kids get a familiar face, clear rules and a sense of safety — and parents get one contact who truly sees their child’s progress.

Why a 5-days-in-a-row course?

Daily repetition

Movement habits are built with frequency. Five days of skating in a row brings results that would take months of weekly classes — with no “forgetting” between sessions.

Fixed group, one level

All the children are a similar age and at the same stage. Exercises hit the spot, and holiday friendships happen along the way.

90 minutes — just right

Long enough to seriously practise technique and still play games on skates. Short enough that a 7–8-year-old finishes hungry for the next day.

A clear goal at the end

From “I can sort of skate” to confident skating: turns both ways, plough braking and speed control. On Friday the kids test it all on an obstacle course.

What we teach on the course

We work with our school’s proven programme — the same one that takes children from first steps to sport-level skating at our day camps and in the sports section. On this course we focus on the “after first steps” stage:

  • A confident stance in motion — knees bent, hands in front, weight in the right place.
  • Longer, stronger push-offs and gliding on both skates.
  • Swizzles — two-sided pushing, edge awareness and leg strength.
  • Slalom between cones and the A-turn — turning naturally, by shifting body weight.
  • Plough braking (“a slice of pizza” with the skates) and the emergency roll-off onto grass.
  • Controlled falling onto the pads and getting up quickly — until it’s automatic.
  • Skating on the varied surfaces of park paths, stepping onto kerbs and small obstacles.
  • Games on skates: tag, relays, mini-hockey — technique used in practice.

After 5 days your child:

  • skates with more confidence, speed and stamina,
  • turns both ways and weaves around obstacles,
  • brakes with the plough and controls speed,
  • knows the rules of safe park skating and how to fall without tears.

The week plan

Swipe to see the whole week

Monday
Start & confidence

We get to know each other and check the group’s level. Safety refresher: pads, stance, controlled falling and getting up. Warm-up games.

Tuesday
Smooth skating

Longer push-offs, gliding on both skates, swizzles. We work on flow and balance in motion.

Wednesday
Turns

Slalom between cones, the A-turn, shifting body weight. Weaving around obstacles on the park paths.

Thursday
Braking

The plough, emergency roll-off onto grass, speed control. We combine everything into longer rides around the park.

Friday
Obstacle course

A recap of the whole week and a mini-contest to finish the course: an obstacle course where the kids show what they’ve learnt.

The order of topics may change depending on the group’s progress and the weather — we cover the whole plan, but flexibly.

  • 18:30pick-up by parents

🌳 Park Szczęśliwicki — our skating home

Classes take place in Park Szczęśliwicki in Ochota — the largest recreational area in this part of Warsaw. We start on the safe asphalt square by the CSN Szczęśliwice building, and as the group progresses we move onto the wide park paths. It’s exactly the same base our day camps and group classes use.

  • Wide asphalt paths perfect for learning to skate
  • A safe practice square well away from streets
  • Greenery and shade — after 17:00 the park is pleasantly cooler
  • Easy access by public transport and parking on ul. Drawska
What to bring
  • Inline skates (wheels in a single line, not quads) with working bearings.
  • A helmet — solid, well fitted, covering the back of the head.
  • A full set of pads with a hard plastic layer: wrists, elbows, knees.
  • A water bottle and comfortable sports clothes.

No gear? Our rental in Park Szczęśliwicki has skates, helmets and pads in children’s sizes — mention it when signing up or give us a call and we’ll prepare a set for your child.

Sign-up & price

Sign-up is online through the ZoneCloud system — current dates and the course price are in the table below. After signing up you’ll receive a confirmation e-mail with payment details; you’ll also find them in your ZoneCloud account under “my sign-ups”.

FAQ — parents’ questions

My child has never skated — is the course for them?

This course assumes the first steps are behind the child: they stand on skates on their own, can roll a few metres and get up after a fall. If your child is starting from zero, private lessons are a much better start — the instructor works at the child’s own pace — and we’ll be happy to see you on a future edition of the course.

My child is 6 or 9 — can we join?

We keep the 7–8 range so the group is genuinely even. If your child is just outside the range and matches the group’s level — get in touch, in certain cases we make exceptions.

What gear should my child have?

Inline skates (wheels in a single line, not quads) with working bearings, a solid helmet and a full set of wrist, elbow and knee pads with a hard plastic layer. Top-shelf equipment isn’t required — what matters is that it fits and works.

A helmet and a full set of pads are mandatory at our classes.

We have no gear — do we need to buy it?

No. Our rental in Park Szczęśliwicki has skates, helmets and pads in children’s sizes. Mention it when signing up or call us and we’ll prepare a set for the whole course. It’s also a good way to check sizing before buying your own skates.

What if it rains?

Skating needs a dry surface — in the rain, classes in the park can’t take place safely. We track the weather closely: if any course day is at risk, we’ll contact parents before the class and agree on a solution together.

Does a parent stay during classes?

There’s no need — the children are under the instructor’s care for the whole session. That said, Park Szczęśliwicki is a lovely place to wait: paths, benches and cafés are right there, so many parents simply stay in the park and watch the progress from the side.

How is the course different from group classes?

Group classes are regular weekly training across the whole season, in groups of various levels. The course is 5 days in a row in a closed group at one level — an intensive format with a visible jump in skills within a single week.

The two formats complement each other: after the course many children continue with group classes.

What comes after the course?

The natural path at our school is group classes through the season, summer roller-skating day camps, and for kids fully hooked — the sports section with training and competitions.
