Roller-skating course
for kids aged 7–9

5 days of skating in a row — Monday to Friday, every day 17:00–18:30 in Park Szczęśliwicki (Ochota, Warsaw).

A small group at two levels — beginner and intermediate — and one instructor for the whole week: a figure-skating specialist. For children who have already made their first steps on skates: we teach confident skating and the first figures — spins, the spiral, pirouettes and skating backwards.

Who is this course for?

The course is for children aged 7–9 who already have their first steps on skates behind them — both those still finding their confidence and those skating freely who want to try figures. We run two levels, beginner and intermediate, and we pick figure-skating elements that can be picked up both with less and with more skating experience.

The course is for a child who:

  • stands on skates and keeps balance on their own,
  • can already move around on skates reasonably well,
  • can get up after a fall,
  • wants to skate with confidence: turn, brake and speed up without fear,
  • fancies something extra: spins, backwards skating and first figures.

This course is NOT for a child who:

  • has never had skates on — for the very start we recommend private lessons for children, where an instructor teaches from zero at the child’s pace,
  • is mainly after speed and sporting competition — group classes or the sports section will be a better fit. But a confident skater who wants to learn figures? This course is exactly for them.

Your child is just outside the age range, or you’re not sure about the level? Call us — we’ll honestly tell you whether the course is the right place for them.

Instructor

The whole course is led by Klaudyna

From the first day to the last, the group works with the same instructor — Klaudyna, a Zone4Rollin instructor specialising in figure skating on inline skates, who teaches skating from scratch to both children and adults. Thanks to her specialisation, figure skating isn’t an add-on here but a daily part of the programme: spins, the spiral, pirouettes, kicks, backwards skating and edge work.

One instructor for the whole week makes a real difference: Klaudyna knows every child by name, knows what the group worked on yesterday and adjusts the exercises as she goes. Kids get a familiar face, clear rules and a sense of safety — and parents get one contact who truly sees their child’s progress.

Why a 5-days-in-a-row course?

Daily repetition

Movement habits are built with frequency. With weekly classes a child forgets what they practised last time — here every next day builds on the one before.

Small group, two levels

The children are a similar age and the course runs at two levels: beginner and intermediate. We pick figure-skating elements that work both with less and with more experience — the instructor shows an easier and a harder version of the same figure.

90 minutes — just right

Long enough to seriously practise technique and lock it in on longer runs. Short enough that a 7–9-year-old finishes hungry for the next day.

A clear goal at the end

From “I can sort of skate” to confident skating: turns both ways, plough braking and the first figures — spins and the spiral. After five days of drills the difference is plain to see.

What we teach on the course

We work with our school’s proven programme — the same one that takes children from first steps to sport-level skating at our day camps and in the sports section. The course stands on two pillars: confident skating plus the basics of figure skating — practised daily, guided by an instructor who specialises in it:

Confident skating

  • A confident stance in motion — knees bent, hands in front, weight in the right place.
  • Longer, stronger push-offs and gliding on both skates.
  • Swizzles — two-sided pushing, edge awareness and leg strength.
  • Slalom between cones and the A-turn — turning naturally, by shifting body weight.
  • Plough braking (“a slice of pizza” with the skates) and the emergency roll-off onto grass.

Figure skating basics

  • Spins — from turning on the spot to the first controlled spin in motion.
  • The spiral (arabesque) — gliding on one leg with the other raised behind.
  • Pirouettes and leg kicks — the first rotational elements.
  • Skating backwards and smooth transitions from forwards to backwards.
  • Edge work — the foundation every figure is built on.

After 5 days your child:

  • skates with more confidence, speed and stamina,
  • turns both ways and weaves around obstacles,
  • brakes with the plough and controls speed,
  • shows the first figures: spins, the spiral and backwards skating,
  • knows the rules of safe park skating and how to fall without tears.

What a course day looks like

We don’t script what happens on which day — the instructor picks the exercise topics as the group progresses (and as the weather allows). What stays the same is the rhythm of every day:

  • 16:50meeting at the square by the CSN Szczęśliwice building (ul. Drawska 22) and putting gear on
  • 17:00warm-up and skating warm-up laps
  • 17:15technique — the topic of the day in exercises and short tasks
  • 17:55consolidation drills — the day’s topic repeated on longer runs
  • 18:25wrap-up of the day and a preview of tomorrow
  • 18:30pick-up by parents

🌳 Park Szczęśliwicki — our skating home

Classes take place in Park Szczęśliwicki in Ochota — the largest recreational area in this part of Warsaw. The exact spot is the safe asphalt square by the CSN Szczęśliwice building (ul. Drawska 22), right next to the Szczęśliwice Hill — and as the group progresses we move onto the wide park paths. It’s exactly the same base our day camps and group classes use.

  • Wide asphalt paths perfect for learning to skate
  • A safe practice square well away from streets
  • Greenery and shade — after 17:00 the park is pleasantly cooler
  • Easy access by public transport and parking on ul. Drawska
What to bring
  • Inline skates (wheels in a single line, not quads) with working bearings.
  • A helmet — solid, well fitted, covering the back of the head.
  • A full set of pads with a hard plastic layer: wrists, elbows, knees.
  • A water bottle and comfortable sports clothes.

No gear? Our rental in Park Szczęśliwicki has skates, helmets and pads in children’s sizes — mention it when signing up or give us a call and we’ll prepare a set for your child.

FAQ — parents’ questions

My child has never skated — is the course for them?

This course assumes the first steps are behind the child: they stand on skates on their own, move around on them reasonably well and get up after a fall. If your child is starting from zero, private lessons are a much better start — the instructor works at the child’s own pace — and we’ll be happy to see you on a future edition of the course.

What do the “figure skating basics” mean?

These are elements known from figure skating moved onto inline skates: spins, the spiral, pirouettes, kicks, backwards skating and edge work — the foundation every figure is built on.

No prior figure skills are needed — we start from zero. The figures are great for balance and skate control, so kids also progress faster in regular skating. This part is led by Klaudyna — an instructor specialising in figure skating.

My child is 6 or 10 — can we join?

We keep the 7–9 range so the group is genuinely even. If your child is just outside the range and matches the group’s level — get in touch, in certain cases we make exceptions.

What gear should my child have?

Inline skates (wheels in a single line, not quads) with working bearings, a solid helmet and a full set of wrist, elbow and knee pads with a hard plastic layer. Top-shelf equipment isn’t required — what matters is that it fits and works.

A helmet and a full set of pads are mandatory at our classes.

We have no gear — do we need to buy it?

No. Our rental in Park Szczęśliwicki has skates, helmets and pads in children’s sizes. Mention it when signing up or call us and we’ll prepare a set for the whole course. It’s also a good way to check sizing before buying your own skates.

What if it rains?

Skating needs a dry surface — in the rain, classes in the park can’t take place safely. We track the weather closely: if any course day is at risk, we’ll contact parents before the class and agree on a solution together.

Does a parent stay during classes?

There’s no need — the children are under the instructor’s care for the whole session. That said, Park Szczęśliwicki is a lovely place to wait: paths, benches and cafés are right there, so many parents simply stay in the park and watch the progress from the side.

How is the course different from group classes?

Group classes are regular weekly training across the whole season. The course is 5 days in a row in a small, closed group — an intensive format with a visible jump in skills within a single week.

The two formats complement each other: after the course many children continue with group classes.

What comes after the course?

The natural path at our school is group classes through the season, summer roller-skating day camps, and for kids fully hooked — the sports section with training and competitions.
